Tracy Freese (Iowa Senate, electionApril 10): The daughter of a union welder, she went to college on Pell Grants and now owns a small business. An economic populist, she supports protecting Planned Parenthood and is looking to flip the seat vacated by the Senate majority leader after he got caught in a scandal.
Cynthia Doran (New York House, electionApril 24): A county legislator and former teacher, she is endorsed by the New York League of Conservation Voters and working families across her district.
Shelley Mayer (New York Senate, electionApril 24):She is a strong candidate with broad support among the progressive community. This is a critical race that could allow Democrats to regain control of the New York Senate.
Helen Tai (Pennsylvania House, electionMay 15): The Chair of the Solesbury Township Board of Supervisors, she is a business owner and has been endorsed by MoveOn.org, Equality Pennsylvania, and Moms Demand Action among others. She supports protecting our environment and is anti-fracking.
