Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D. OR) in support of his colleague, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s (D. ND) re-election campaign:

My friend and fellow Democrat, Senator Heidi Heitkamp, needs our help. National Republicans desperately want to win her seat, and they are coming at Heidi with everything they've got, namely money. Buckets of money.

Big-money Republicans and their shadowy front groups are pouring cash into her opponent's campaign. They're trying to tear down Heidi and stop Democrats from taking back the Senate.

Heidi is a fierce advocate for the Affordable Care Act. She voted against the tax scam that gives tax breaks to corporations and the super-rich. She has consistently voted against Trump cabinet nominees. And she's a strong voice for farmers who are suffering because of Trump's trade and tariff policies.

We need Heidi in the Senate. Mitch McConnell and Republicans are freaking out and warning that they might lose the Senate. And they’re right, we have a good chance to win back control. But if we want to fire Mitch McConnell and put a big check on Donald Trump, we need to make sure Heidi wins.

But it's also a state that voted overwhelmingly for Heidi Heitkamp. Because she's North Dakota tough. Smart. Hardworking. A fighter.
