We are undergoing a painful transition in our nation from having our first Black, First Family to a Neo-Nazi White House.
The symbolism of this could not more starkly represent the divide in our nation. And the reality of it could not be more painful. Our nation is in mourning. Not only have we lost the election to a racist, sexist, xenophobe, but we are saying goodbye to our beloved First Family, the Obamas, who happen to be the first Black, First Family. We heartbroken. Grieving. Millions of Americans fear for their safety. They fear state sanctioned violence and hate crimes or are terrified that they may be deported or lose their rights.
Our first priority must be to ensure the safety and protect the rights of our citizens.
One way in which we can do this is to send a loud message thatwe will not quietly accept a racist White House staffed by alt-right leaders such as Steve Bannon and we will resist the normalizing that Republican leaders are attempting to do by shrugging off this disturbing reality.
Republicans leaders such as Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio have dismissed questions regarding what the ramifications may be of allowing an alt-right racist to hold the position of Chief Strategist to the President. They are ignoring the warnings of Democrats such as Senator Harry Reid that,“It is not normal for the KKK to celebrate the election of a president they view as their champion.”
Speaking out against the appointment of Bannon as Chief Strategist to the President may not prevent it, but it will draw a line in the sand and let the people in our most vulnerable communities, Black, Latino, Asian, Native American, Muslim, LGBT and women, know: “We hear you. We See You. We are With You.” This is our mandate. We will not be divided. We are the majority.
Senator Jeff Merkley has crafted a petition to do just this. Please sign the petition and share on your social media accounts.
Donald Trump is appointing as his chief strategist an unrepentant white nationalist: Steve Bannon.
That’s not OK, and we need to make that as clear as day to the President-elect.
Steve Bannon proudly turned the Breitbart News site into a bastion of “alt-right” racism, sexism, hatred, and bigotry. It has a news section called “Black Crime.” After the massacre of African American churchgoers in Charleston, it promoted flying the Confederate flag as a symbol of “glorious heritage.”The outburst of hate speech and attacks on women, immigrants, African Americans, Muslims, and so many others, is a direct consequence of a Trump campaign that embraced Steve Bannon's extreme and hateful worldview.Sign the Petition: Call on Donald Trump to rescind the appointment of Steve Bannon, repudiate his horrific, racist, sexist, bigoted views, and call for an end to violence, hate speech, and intimidation.
We call on Donald Trump to rescind the appointment of Steve Bannon, repudiate his horrific, racist, sexist, bigoted views, and call for an end to violence, hate speech, and intimidation.Jeff
The Republicans and the corporate media are already busy normalizing and white washing the fact that a bigot has been given the keys to the White House. We must make it known that we are resolved in resisting this racist ideology at every point from now until he no longer occupies the People’s House. Every step of the way.
